EDIT: The changes I made to this prose were minimal, but there's one thing I'd like to address. Marie suggested that I dial back the harshness of Sid's insults for fear that he could be fired. The reason I made the insults as bad as they are is to prove a point: sadistic teachers exist and they don't always get punished for their sins. Maybe there's a way to prove that point AND dial back the insults at the same time. I just haven't figured out how yet.
